Sounds like
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=362722;msg=50 , so this
bug should probably be reassigned to libfontenc1.
If so, it should work with LC_ALL=C, or if you
sudo ln -nfs . /usr/share/fonts/X11/fonts
