Hi,

(apparently my first reply didn't reach the list, sending again)

I don't think we should change the panel structure in Debian (there is
no real reason for Debian to divert from upstream code). 

Do you have a good reason to want this ? If you think this layout is
really better the right place to get the changes is upstream ...
