If you got that dialog from gvm, the mounting part worked fine. You probably
don't have gthumb installed (the default program gvm uses for photos). This is
indeed a bug in the gvm package and will be fixed asap :).

I'm not sure if gvm and hal are going to be in sarge at all. I'm considering
requesting hal to be removed from sarge. 

The current hal in sarge is going to break tonight when the new dbus arrives.
Hal (>= 0.2.97) in unstable is buggy (i'll be uploading a new package tonight
to fix most things), but it has too many changes to push it to sarge imho. I
can fix the hal in sarge to work with the newer dbus, but currently i'm leaning
towards just leaving it out and give it some more time to mature for sarge+1.
