Hmm, well in the end I wasn't quite that drastic, but I did log out, kill ~/.nautilus and ~/.gconfd then remove all nautilus config and anything that looked like a hidden files pref from ~/.gconf. When I logged back in and after setting everything up again, the hidden files persisted on the desktop a bit more, then seemed to spontaneously go away (maybe after a logout/login?). Oh well. Thanks for the help! /Mike PS: Does anyone know what kind of saved_state is .gconfd used for? I assumed it was left over from gconf-1 and nothing changed after I nuked it, but it seems to be back again anyway. -- michael gratton, itinerant geek blatant self promotion: <http://web.vee.net/>
