Do you mean size in pixels or in say millimetres? The idea is to
preserve the latter.

I seem to be able to enter sizes smaller than 8 manually.

Don't know much about XLFD, but the size here could be in pixels, and I
think the 100-100 means the font was rasterized for 100 DPI.
