No problems, thanks muchly, changed it to "Default" and instantly the icons
came back.

Aha, it was set to "ThinAndMild", which is the gtk2 theme I usually use.

Hmm, I'm guessing from this that setting the theme in gnome-control-center
is now setting the icon theme?  Does this mean in the future, icon sets are
going to be packaged with the gtk themes?
