Am I not an user?
I find menus with 30+ entries hard to use and understand.
I agree that deep hierarchies are confusing (dunno about invasive), but
that doesn't mean you have to lump everything at the first level. If
you take a look at our menus, "Games" is a top level category, with
subcategories under that. That is, from nothing to nethack it's Menu
-> Games -> Adventure -> Nethack. Watching the freaks that work here,
I see Start -> Programs -> 50+ program folders -> program name, and
they seem to like that... OTOH, I usually get lost after "Start" :-P
