Makes sense. Point #1 on to-do list: make sure xfonts-scalable registers
its fonts with XFT. Other font packages will need to do so as well;
suggestions solicited from the list.

(Defoma does this, right?)

Since I haven't actually done much other than press enter on Debconf
settings screens and/or install the base debian gnome 2 desktop, this is
clearly a deficiency in our packaging which I will look in to.
