Coming from upstream...

You're probably best off maintaining both, at least until a) 2.0.2ish and/or
b) Ximian / Red Hat release their 2.0-based desktops.

Firstly, 2.0.1/2 is going to be *far* more stable than 2.0.0, because Sun
and Ximian are putting a huge effort into polishing it for Solaris 9.
Secondly, we're currently lacking sane migration and settings compat between
1.x and 2.x. This means that your existing settings won't be used in 2.x and
anything you change won't be reflected in you 1.x apps. I imagine that this
will be addressed with Red Hat and Ximian's desktop releases. Thirdly, this
is just the desktop release, so all of the 1.x platform libraries and
applications will still be hanging around.

Of course, it also gives everyone a choice as to when they upgrade, too. :-)
