that's the goal... we won't be forcing, the point is creating a
'gnome' meta package which depends on the defaults, and let
people choose whatever they want

sure, that's one of the advantages Gnome has, and should be kept but it
is important to have a good default for those who doesn't care choosing
and want a working thing out of the box, a task is by no means a restriction
it is just the best default one can think of, and that's what integration
means, IMO
