So, whats the current status of the netCDF transition?

We still need to verify all reverse dependencies before we can request
a transition slot.

Ross was working on this, but he's on vacation now. No one else is
actively testing the reverse dependencies AFAIK. I'm not going to start
with that before getting the gdal & spatialite transition done. If you
want to help with the netcdf transition verify all reverse dependencies
with the new netcdf, netcdf-cxx, netcdf-cxx-legacy & netcdf-fortran
packages.

All the netcdf-* packages appear to build, are there outstanding bugs or
should we just kick off the transition?

So, to start with I've tested and built my packages, either in unstable
or experimental:
adios
cdftools
cmor
exodusii
ferret-vis
grads
magics++
oasis3
cdo
# metview
ncl

metview still has an RC bug that should be fixed today.

Of these, cdo and metview are in the auto-grib-api transition. This
hopefully will transition 5 days
after metview hits unstable.

That's good news, thanks!

My vacation starts next week, during that I'll do a round of netcdf rebuilds in preparation of the transition too.

Because of the upcoming GCC 5 libstdc++ transitions, maybe we should start the netcdf transition because of that if there are no serious issues with the new netcdf packages and their reverse dependencies.

Kind Regards,

Bas
