Re: [DebianGIS] [OSGeo-Discuss] FOSS4G LiveCD

Hmmm, still having login issues. Tried it under qemu and directly booting on my laptop.

Basic issue is that a login screen comes up when it shouldn't and no combination of user/pass that I've tried works. It was suggested that maybe we try changing something in the gdm config to make sure the login doesn't come up.

The underlying error I get on vt1 is "user not known to the underlying
authentication module"

I've tried verbose booting, safe graphics, single user etc. No other clues except some old bugs about pci on launchpad under ubuntu from 2 years ago.

Any clues?

I'm pulling a copy now to test it, I guess I'll just go through and make
sure everything on the list launches or is running.
Hopefully this won't have the login bug I was running into with the
previous version.

I should have some results in 9 hours.

We have now posted an image of the dvd to
http://download.osgeo.org/livedvd/FOSS4G-2008-LiveDVD-Alpha1.iso. My
attempts and rangling some interesting data came to nothing due to the
short timeline, but Stefan has added the applications listed. It
sounds like camp-to-camp won't have time to put into the image this
week. Is anyone else ready to step up and do their thing?

Debian GIS list,
I hope you don't mind us gate crashing your list.
I'm hoping our LiveCD discussion (based on xubuntu) will be helpful
for members of this list too.

Greetings,
Our plan at the moment is quite simple. We're installing the java stack
onto the Ominiverde live cd image, and doing whatever configuration and
default project setup that we can do by COB Tuesday
<http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?month=9&day=16&year=2008&hour=17&min=0&sec=0&p1=240>,
though it may take some time after that to upload to the server. At
this point, we're basically passing the reigns to the next person that
wants to add some apps, either fvanderbiest or jsanz.

My understanding of the current configuration and what we expect to add
is attached. I don't have sizes for the data we're adding for three
reasons, I'm still downloading it, I need to crop it to Africa's bbox,
and I'm not sure if we'll have time to get it loaded in any useful
manner. If it gets in, I expect it to be well under 1GB, for a total
size of somewhere under 2.2GB. We haven't bothered looking at getting
the image size to fit a CD, since the Ominiverde image is already too
big. Ideally we would want both a CD and a DVD, but there really isn't
time.

Since our timeline is tight any feedback, while always welcome, need
come quickly. Who would like to step up to take ownership of the image
next, what will you add and how much time will you need?
