Indeed, someone should be sure that upstream does not adopt naive
approaches, such as removing functions, changing existent data structures
and so on. Changing an API is perfectly normal. In rare cases APIs could
be broken by concept and that could be a problem and they need a deep
change. But it is a very rare case, indeed.
