If other folks are OK with the transition, i'll probably push a proposed git tree somewhere public in the next week and ask for feedback before trying to publish it git.debian.org. A review and suggestions at that point would be really helpful (or if you just want to go ahead and do the transition yourself, i'd be happy to provide the review -- i don't really care which role i play in the process as long as it ends up being well-done).
