Do you mean that you want to set up a computer to be a firewall _and_ be a
node in a Mosix cluster at the same time? Unless you just want to use
firewalling just to tighten up the security of that very computer, this is
usually a Very Bad Idea (TM), as Mosix nodes must trust each other
unconditionally. To securely use Mosix, you should really connect the
nodes of the cluster over secure media, i.e. over a private network, if
possible using independent cabling, otherwise setting up a VPN with
something like freeswan (I administer such a cluster myself).
Of course, setting up some simple firewalling rules on any computer
connected to the 'net is always a good idea anyway.
As to the NIC apparently not working, some NICs have problems with less
than perfect cabling, and in this case forcing them to avoid duplex and/or
to work at 10 Mbit/s may get them to work.
