Rosegarden is more comparable to professional tools like Cubase, so I
agree they are not that interesting for primary school.
Linux-based music tools more comparable to (music part of) iLife is
TamTam developed for the OLPC project (and thus not yet in debian or
Skolelinux, but we are working on it!): http://wiki.laptop.org/go/TamTam
I am not aware of any point'n'click hit'n'run intuitive video tools for
Linux.
