Re: possible update exceptions for stable archive? (rules)

Hi

Ok to finally get that into the ArchivePolicy[0], I prepared a diff to the
current policy (as requested by the policy). Here it is. So far there were no
objections, if you object now, please speak up. I still have to say that I
feel very strongly about updating the stable pool, although I see the need
for it.

Cheers
Steffen

  1. In order to see the bugzilla interaction it is recommended that you write
down in your changelog if you close a Debian-Edu/Skolelinux Bug (e.g. * foo
bar (Closes Skolelinux Bug #007) ) but keep in mind that you have to close
the bug manually in bugzilla!

+1. For updating a package in the stable pool, the following guidelines apply:
+ - stable does not get updated
+
+ - Write an email to debian-edu@l.d.o. including the old package version, a
+ full debdiff (so that everyone can look at the patch) and ask for
inclusion.
+ It is also needed to mention the old and the proposed new version in the
mail.
+ Please also cc the email to ftpmaster@skolelinux.org.
+ For the mail, make sure that you use a fixed subject. Something like the
following would do:
+ Stable update proposal: $package
+
+ - The package will not be touched for 3 days.
+
+ - If no problem arises and an ftpmaster agrees, the new package version goes
+ in. This is IMHO useful as long as we are working on r1 and becomes a bit
+ less useful, when we work on something lenny based.

  1. In addition to these rules we try to follow the normal Rejection-FAQ
written by the Debian ftpmasters to make sure we keep the archive legal and
keep the packages in good quality. You find their rejection-FAQ at
http://ftp-master.debian.org/REJECT-FAQ.html
