I went to google maps, and simple hit "karkala nitte". 

Here is the geography - Mangalore, Surathkal, Udupi / Manipal, and
Murudeshwar are along Kochi - Panvel road aka.  NH 17 (Notional
Highway - you will know why I call it that when you travel on
it). Karkala is almost equidistant from M'lore and Udupi from both
places.

And M'lore airport ("bajpe", on map) seems more close to Mangalore
than what I thought. I was thinking it was more close to Mulki / Udupi
than Mangalore. I stand corrected.

Jog falls seems to be 2/3 hours East of Murudeshwar. (hilly roads - we
call them "ghats"). 

You can visit Murudeshwar and Jog one same day. 

Please note that I am not a local myself. 

Let me see if I can come up with an itenary by Sunday. It will be
still be better if one of the locals did it for you though.
