Bug#224929: dpkg -i foo, fails: I/O error?

Package: dpkg
Version: 1.10.18 (i386)

When I execute 'dpkg -i foo.deb', with foo being any valid .deb file, it throws me an error message, listed below. 'apt-get install foo' also fails the same way. I have tried several different deb packages, some that worked before, and now they fail. Here is a transcript:

# dpkg -i foo.deb
(Reading database ... dpkg: error processing foo.deb (--install):
failed in buffer_read(fd): files list for package `kivio': Input/output error
Errors were encountered while processing:
foo.deb
Processing was halted because there were too many errors.
#

Is it an error with kivio?
I am using Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 Sid, kernel 2.6.0 and libc-2.3.2.

Other information:
# kivio --version
Qt: 3.2.1
KDE: 3.1.4
Kivio: 1.2.95
#apt-get -v
apt 0.5.15 for linux i386 //other information edited out
#

Thanks a million,
Sean
