Good: a presume as per the fmtutil.cnf file after installing the Debian
pdfxmltex package:

pdfxmltex pdftex language.dat &pdflatex pdfxmltex.ini

However, main_memory.pdflatex is nowhere in the config files as
installed by Debian under /etc/texmf/ . Nevertheless some memory value is
associated with LaTeX:

# kpsewhich -expand-var=\$main_memory.pdflatex
2630000 % words of inimemory available: also applies to inimf&mp.pdflatex

That's in my build script.

OK, I was not aware that I should run fmtutil (twice) after changing the
texmf.cnf file. Are such procedures documented somewhere?

Building the PDF now completes. I'll report on the additional problems
in a new thread.
