 Roo can access the contents of various spreadsheet files. It can handle
  * OpenOffice
  * Excelx
  * LibreOffice
  * CSV

While there are other Ruby gems to work with spreadsheets, they didn't handle ods files.
Another benefit is that this gem is activly maintained (last release Jan 2017.)
