The goal (or at least, a possible one) is to be able to update the 
operating system (or to snapshot it) while keeping your data and 
configurations.
The most obvious of /var which is related to the OS is /var/lib/dpkg/, 
I expect that with some experience we will find out the best way to 
handle it when doing snapshots or system image upgrades.
