Alternatively:

build:
	find . -name "*.jar" -exec rename 's/$/.orig/' "{}" ";"

clean:
	find . -name "*.jar.orig" -exec rename 's/\.orig$//' "{}" ";"

IMO this is ok as long as these jars can be rebuilt during build.
