You don't have to do that, although it is recommended that you subscribe
to the whitelist mailing list¹.

Err, are you aware that the linux.debian.user.german newsgroup is
nothing else than a gatewayed mailing list, namely
firstname.lastname@example.org? And where did you subscribe to it?
