How can you possibly consider this justified, without even passing
through the TC?  I find your decision to do this in appallingly bad
taste.  If I could produce a ten page essay on why I would be a
superior maintainer for one of your packages could I simply hijack it?

You want to talk about appearances.  It appears that you're acting as
inherently superior to another developer without involving the TC
because of the fact that you're already on it.
