How to NMU is documented in the developers-reference -- you mail a patch to the BTS, indicate that you're going to NMU via the BTS, then NMU. Normally you have more than five seconds between those actions, but even if ten seconds is too long to wait, you should still do all those things. Heck, you should mail *especially* if ten seconds is too long to wait -- just to explain why the problem is so serious so there's some hope the maintainer can avoid it in future.

The whole point of the "mail the BTS" policy is to avoid maintainers not knowing what's going on, or why it's going on.

(Apparently Lamont's connectivity was screwed up, which caused the lack of email in this case, rather than lack of knowledge or effort)
