For me this looks if this way of getting updates (e.g. download from internet) is somehow not suitable for a large enterprise roll-out where some machines might not even have access to the public internet. There should be a different standard debian way to allow our users to update their stable boxes!

BTW, why not declare bugs like outdated (virus-) scanner and filter signatures, etc. as security or important issues? This would allow regular "security updates" for those packages this thread primary refers to.
