It's the pure AMD64 port. It's "the" Debian AMD64 port, because no other
serious effort has been undertaken yet.

I was not aware of that and I guess others can comment on this better.

Usually, people voice their reservations *before* others take on a
shitload of work to get something done, in order to safe on useless
work.
