(fontconfig looks like it's s'posed to replace the bitmap fonts that KDE wants with nicer ones but seems to choose really yucky ones instead. I should probably work out what's going on and file a bug...) The font can also be changed in the KDE Control Centre - under System Admin/Login Manager/Font. Cheers, Cameron.
