Woody supported both 2.2 and 2.4 kernels, updating 2.2 from 2.2.20 -> 2.2.25 might not do much hardware support-wise due to the fact that it was already essentially obsolete at the time of woody's release but an upgrade of the 2.4 kernel from 2.4.18(?) -> 2.4.25 definitely would make a big difference for hardware support.
