Debian is caching debs rather than targzs. What i got from here, if the argument is on deciding on whether project shold cache-old the source code tarballs rather then binaries - i got debs from here as binary , because i did not come accross other binaries cached in the system - , I cannot see any differencess between debs and tarballs in such a way that debs are optimized and suited version of tarballs for debian. They are compiled in a manner of a similar architecture and some similar compiling tools. So what about inefficiency of compiling the whole source code after removing the binary and after that you felt yourself, in your brain or in your emotions, you would like to install it again. On idealism, binary caching and re-installing from them (if no updates) should be, On pragmatism, it also should be for keeping away the system using over resources while compiling the tarballs again and again....
