Hmm, i think the best way would be to collect a database for hardware
supported by each configuration variable in the kernel config, and feed
in the kernel configuration for each boot media and make it spit out a
customized compatibility list for that image.

There is no such service (not that i'm aware of) but it would be great
to have around.
