Bug#174308: star should become standard tar
On 2002-12-26 at 02:03 +0100 Eduard Bloch sent off:
Not till it begins to emulate GNU tar's default behaviour.
All scripts relying on tar's method of overwritting file, or using its
simple filelist output, would break terribly.
scripts relying on such not standarized behaviours should be fixed,
not one tool should emulate the behaviour of another.
That are all things JS keeps saying and though, 99% of users are
happy with GNU tar.
what an argument ...
I think even if 99% of the users *would* be happy, what about the 1%
(I thinks it' much more). The technical superiority of star over gnu
tar is argument enough, the standard conformance of star, too.
