the problem occured in october or november. i had not changed the hardware. i
did the last compilation of a kernel when 2.4.18 came up and all went fine.

most of the installation is debian package-ware.
beneath the regular sid-sources, i installed multimedia stuff and kde3 from
inofficial sources (see apt/sources.list below)
/usr/local/sbin helds some scripts for firewalling, backup an supervision
