I can use gentoo's X server and the opensouce nv driver here with kde and have a usable desktop. I couldn't in debian, it was just too slow. Yes, it's anticdotal. Apples, and oranges, and all that...but newer source, newer gcc, and closer arch/optimization levels help here. I run debian where it makes much more since, on the server--where conservativism is appreacated. Thomas /cloke
