Under the Debian OS refers to BIOS, Hardware, etc. so I guess you didn't read the whole thread. These don't come with Debian so it isn't a Debian issue but it is pretty hard to find something to run Debian on that is free as well. My understanding with Acroread was there were redistribution problems with the license. So then this non-free(not part of Debian) software would be removed as the community (Debian) does want to break the license agreement.

Originally, I suggested that there was something wrong with the OSI approval of licenses as if they are not good enough for Debian main. They are probably not good enough for OSI either in that case. Apple Public License was the one mentioned as having issues.
