The last time this came up (around July of 2000), the example of
Netscape Navigator was trotted out time and time again.

And some people still use it from time to time. I use it to test my web pages, to make sure I'm backwards compatible with crippled browsers.

Well, the Netscape Navigator problem *has* been solved. Now we've got
things like bsdgames-nonfree and being held up as examples of software
that We Cannot Live Without. :)

Fine. I'll list the two that _I_ use: conserver and x3270.

I'd love to see a good replacement for x3270. It could definitely be improved on, aside from the licensing. But in the past, I've had the choice of using it, or using Windows.

conserver is the sort of package that becomes critical infrastructure. I use it because I have more systems than ports on my KVM switch. I know people use it for production support.

Point is, these aren't games, they're the sort of programs people use for serious work. They aren't proprietary, they just happen to have some source files with stupid licenses.
