ext2 mount option: can debian do grpid (bsdgroups) on root / and elsewhere?

my impresssion is that the default is nogrpid (sysvgroups). 
Do packages rely on this behavior on the root file
system for example, suppose I made /home bsdgroup behaviour would
this break stuff? etc....
