Notwithstanding anything else, this is IMHO complete bollocks. .bashrc is
for anything that needs to be done at the times that .bashrc gets processed
by bash (i.e. when you're starting an interactive non-login shell, when bash
is invoked as bash and believes it's being invoked by rshd, or any other
time you've kludged it to be sourced).

If you need environment variables to be set at that time, then use .bashrc...
