Well, no list of possibilities is comprehensive[0]. Consider it
a list of things that commonly go wrong.
Or we could just word it:
mount: failed. Reason unknown, but suspect inadequate parts.
and watch the bug reports fly!
Almost as good as OpenBSD's sudo's error messages ;-)
[0] Bad hardware, quantum uncertainties, water on the brain, hitting the
machine with a sledge hammer, selective removal of ICs,
corrupt kernel,
editing the source code to make the error happen, etc. are
all routinely
omitted.
