Ah. So we effectively require that ``/bin/sh should be a POSIX (SUSv3)
shell supporting the "UP" extension, and a BSD echo.'' Along with other,
as yet unknown, caveats. Strange that Linux "echo" is still considered
to contravene POSIX.
