Perhaps, but that still A) doesn't fix the problem that packages.d.o
only does i386 packages, B) involves creating an ad-hoc protocol, and C)
doesn't give anyone else programmatic access to the information unless
they parse HTML.
debian-project-corba lays the foundation for solving all of these
problems (among a number of others); I'm just waiting on the OK of the
DSAs to make a test deployment. I'm not saying there aren't problems
with it that need to be solved, but I really do think it is the way to
go for integrating all of Debian's services.
