Ok, this is no longer correct in most cases.
It was just some thing i had heard some time ago.
But there are cases where this cannot be done, such as Xfree with the
upstream tarball split into 3 files, tar.bz2 upstream tarballs...

the drawbacks i see from the single-diff are still valid though.
