i suppose you could, but you'd have to have a list of each md5sum from
_each_ previous incarnation, since we don't know before hand the
previous version tht is being upgraded from.

if you ``optimise'' for the common case (ie: say going from 3.14-5 to
3.14-59) and check that md5sum _only_, then you can prevent a good
percentage of people from getting asked.
not a bad idea, if you can determine what a good percentage (20%? 80%?)
of target upgrade paths would be, and plan accordingly.
