Sourceforge packaging progress

  Hello people,

Some of you might remember that I sent an ITP for Sourceforge some
time ago, under the rationale "It would be nice to be able to have a
full Sourceforge running in one apt-get and a few debconf questions".

[People not interested in that package need not read further, save
your time for something useful]

Some of you have heard of my work-in-progress packages for SF 2.0.
They are quite usable (I have a vanilla install of them here at work
and it works), only they aren't complete (some functions are missing,
like file releases, CVS and mailing-lists).

Some of you may have heard that I was working on SF 2.5 packages,
because SF 2.5 is so much better than 2.0. These ones may have heard
that I wanted to reach at least the level of functionality I had with
2.0 before I uploaded anything to unstable, because the migration of
the database from 2.0-mysql to 2.5-postgresql will be a real PITA.

Some of you might even have found some files on some klecker.d.o
account, even though they were not publicised anywhere, while I was
on vacation.

Now the problem is this: the morning I came back from skiing, I had
a server crash on a real-work machine (partitions corrupted, big loss
of data, some loss of source). I had intended to have some time to
work on SF these days, it seems this is not the case. The server
crashed, but the deadlines did not.

So, I'm afraid the SF 2.5 packages won't be uploaded to whatever
yet. That's the main point of this email: don't hold your breath. I
apologise for people who have done so up until today. On a slightly
more optimistic note, though, know that I have not quit from my ITP.
I eventually will get back to packaging and get it out. And on a
slightly more pratcical note, if people want to work on the stuff, I'd
be glad to know about it. People interested may grab the current
state of the package at <http://people.debian.org/~lolando/sf2.5/>,
fix bugs, and send me the patches :-) so that progress be not stalled
on that package.

I, um, "apologise for the inconvenience", as they say.

Roland.
