since this has become an issue, i'd like to add to this thread...

i'm currently trying to install debian to a netfinity box at work.
everything is fine, except for the fact that debian does NOT support the
ServeRAID cards out of the box. i had to patch the kernel and take an old
boot/root disk and replace the kernel to get it to see it at all. now,
obviously the script there doesn't work properly, so i'm not getting any
further any time soon (i plan on trying to edit the ISO file directly, see
if i can't fix the startup CD). my point is, i wish there was a way of
having, say, a specially compiled kernel on a disk, and just have the setup
cd have a choice where you can select that...

oh, and while i'm uttering gibberish, i'm not sure *how* to improve it, but
the part of the install procedure where you partition the hard disks could
be improved. one should be able to mount the partitions as you create them,
instead of having to create them, exit the program, go to a menu, select a
menu item, rinse repeat. just a thought...
