It's your package, and defaults are just defaults. If you changed it, I'd probably just add it next to linking traceroute to /usr/local/bin as one of those irrititating workarounds I do on my systems. FWIW: I think having things publically available is a better default than having things private by default. It matches the philosophy of o+r permissions on most of the system. It matches the "information wants to be free" philosophy which is at least reasonably common. It arguably promotoes a more community feel to a system if people can poke around and see what everyone else is up to. And of course, it doesn't stop people chmod'ing stuff that they do want private, or admins changing the default on their system if a "community feel" isn't at all desirable.
