ITP: freetds

Hello all,

I'm going through the arduous process of bringing myself up to speed on the
ins and outs of Debian packaging, with the hope of becoming a Debian
developer, and the first thing the Developer's Reference says to do is to join
the list and mention my intentions for any packages I plan to work on.

I'm a long-time GNU/Linux user, and for the past few years I've been using
mostly RedHat more because of momentum than because of any great love for that
distro; over the years I've collected quite a collection of rpms I've built
myself for various reasons, and it's been difficult for me to make the jump to
a different packaging mechanism, but I'm working on it. :) As part of that
process, I'd like to be able to contribute some of these packages (at least
the ones that are free) to the Debian project. That's something I could never
dream of doing with RedHat, and the thought of having other people out there
to critique and improve the packages with me is rather refreshing. :)

As a starting point, I'm working on packaging freetds
(http://www.freetds.org), a client library for Microsoft and Sybase SQL
servers. Yes, I know all the documentation says not to start out with
libraries -- unfortunately, this is the package that is most immediately
useful to me. :) And hey, I had to start somewhere! But if anyone thinks
this is a terribly bad idea, I'm open to suggestions. :)
