Java package manager

I couldn't find an appropriate place to send this, so I figured I'd grab
this email address. I apologize in advance if this isn't the proper
address.

I've been a Debian user for close to a year now, and love the distro and
attitude Debian embody, having been both a Slackware and Redhat user in the
past.

So, after writing many different tools and having to futz with general
problems with Java (different versions of jars, maintaining classpath, etc),
I've decided to sit down and write a Java based package manager to handle
all the crap I hate about managing Java programs.

The trick is, I know pretty much nothing about package management. I'm
curious to see the design (if there was a documented design), and talk to
the people who made it, so I can learn from them and even possibly integrate
the JPKG manager into DPKG/Apt. (No, I don't want to just port Apt/DPKG to
Java, FYI).

Soooo, how do I go about getting input from the creators/community about
this? I figured I'd ask you guys, but this is really a WAG. I'm on the
Debian Java mailing list, but before I propose this idea to those guys, I'd
like to do my research first, and I've looked and not found anything. I'd
appreciate any help you could give me.

Thanks,
Matt
