This is a stock woody system where i've been seeing the problem
for as long as i've been using pygtk.

Definitely. I have no idea what the correct solution is. I was
just posting upstream's two recommendations; i figured you and
the Python maintainer could figure something out.

I could have, but i don't think it would have helped. No one
understands being busy more than me, but that's no excuse for
ignoring your bugs, especially trivial ones.
